Urban Water Management Plans (UWMP) 2015

Urban Water Management Plans (UWMPs) are prepared by California's urban water suppliers to support their long-term resource planning, and ensure adequate water supplies are available to meet existing and future water demands. Every urban water supplier that either provides over 3,000 acre-feet of water annually, or serves more than 3,000 urban connections is required to assess the reliability of its water sources over a 20-year planning horizon, and report its progress on 20% reduction in per-capita urban water consumption by the year 2020, as required in the Water Conservation Bill of 2009 SBX7-7. The plans must be prepared every 5 years and submitted to the Department of Water Resources (DWR). DWR staff then reviews the submitted plans to make sure they have completed the requirements identified in the Water Code, Sections §10608– 10656, then submits a report to the Legislature summarizing the status of the plans. For each round of UWMPs, DWR provides guidance for urban water suppliers. This includes preparation of a Guidebook, workshops, and program staff to assist in preparing comprehensive and useful water management plans, implementation of water conservation programs, and understanding the requirements of the Act. Table 2-1 Retail Only: Public Water Systems

This table provides information on the Public Water System(s) managed by the water supplier. Public Water Systems (PWSs) are the systems that provide drinking water for human consumption. These systems are regulated by the State Water Resources Control Board, Division of Drinking Water.

Table 2-2: Plan Identification

This table indicates whether the submitted plan is for an individual urban supplier or for a group of regional suppliers, known as a Regional UWMP. If the plan is a Regional UWMP, this table will also indicate whether the Regional UWMP includes a Regional Alliance. A Regional Alliance addresses requirements specific to SBX7-7 legislation.

2015 Urban Water Management Plans Guidebook for Urban Water Suppliers

The Guidebook for Urban Water Suppliers (Guidebook) has been developed by Department of Water Resources to assist urban water suppliers in preparing 2015 Urban Water Management Plans (UWMPs or Plans). This guidance is intended to ensure the Plans will address the requirements of the California Water Code (CWC), provide useful information to the public about water suppliers and their water management programs, and provide a framework for water planning to minimize the negative effects of potential water shortages.
